    Hi,

Whenever I create a new Salesforce project, if the org is very large, having a lot of metadata; IDE stops responding after some time. It doesnt downloads any of the metadata and the project folder appears to be empty.

This happens with every org which is huge.

    Thanks!

      Hi,

Thank you for you bug report.

May I please clarify with you if TWS crashes during downloading your metadata files or when you click the 'Cancel' button?

I kindly ask you to create a new project with one metadata type files, for example with classes only. After this please open the context menu of your created project in the Solution Explorer, select the 'Project Metadata Components' item and select the necessary additionally files. Then please make the pull from Salesforce.

As a side note, if the pull is failed or it hangs, you can add the files for each metadata type separately.

Please let us know if this workaround works for you.

Our developers will work on the issue you are faced with.

      Regards,

      Kate

        Thanks for your reply.

IDE crashes during downloading metadata files. After authentication the screen shows message "Downloading metadata..." and then nothing happens for a while and it crashes.

Also as you suggested to download classes only, can you please let me know where can I set default metadata download for a new project? Sorry, I couldn't find any setting.

        Thanks!

          Greetings,

          Thank you for your response.

Currently, there are no settings to select the default set of the downloaded metadata during the project creation. You can change this manually when you download your project from Salesforce.

As for the TWS crash, I kindly ask you to send us your crash log files. These files are created after each crash of the IDE, and they are located in your %temp% folder. Name of these files are 'MSBuild_[SomeGuid].failure'.

You can attach them to your post here or send them us to the  info@welkinsuite.com email.

This will help us to understand the reason for the issue you are faced with.

          Thank you,

          Kate

            Hi,

I could not find MSBuild_*.failure files in my %temp% folder. I tried to create project again, but even though IDE crashed; there was no failure file.

            Thanks

              Hi,

              Thank you for this information.

May I please ask you to tell me if the Static Resources are included to your project?

If this is true, please create your project without this metadata type. Please let us know the result of this project creation process.

The reason for the issue you are faced with can be a long file path related to one of your Static Resources.

              Thank you for your collaboration.

              Regards,

              Kate

                Hi,

Project have a lot of static resources. One of the resources may have a long path in it.

However I cannot go to metadata selection screen as IDE crashes before that. Hence I cannot create a project without static resource metadata type.

                Thanks,

                Shantinath

                  Hi Shantinath,

                  Thank you for this information.

I kindly ask you to do the next:

                  • please open your 'cmd'
                  • enter: cd [the full path where your TheWelkinSuite.exe file is located] (by default, this is C:\Program Files (x86)\The Welkin Suite\The Welkin Suite)
                  • please enter the next: TheWelkinSuite.exe /log [a full path to any your custom folder or disk]:\log.txt (for example, d:\log.txt)
                  • click 'Enter'
                  • please open your project again.

This way the new log file of The Welkin Suite will be created and we will have an ability to get the information that should be present in the crash log files of TWS. Please make sure that you have full access to your custom folder/disk that will be used for the log file creation.

Please send us the newly created 'log.txt' file. This will help us to understand the reason for the issue you are faced with.

If you have any additional questions, please ask me. I will be glad to answer them.

We appreciate your help in our investigation process greatly.

                  Thank you,

                  Kate

                      Hi Victor,

                      Thank you for your post.

May I please clarify with you if the IDE freezes or crashes during your project creation?

If this crashes, I kindly ask you to check if there are 'MSBuild_[SomeGuid].failure' files in your %temp% folder after these crashes.

If this is a freeze of TWS, please let us know if the IDE returns to the work after this.

Does this is reproduced before the metadata list is available for you or on the another stage of your project creation?

In addition, please let me know what type of the authentication are you using during creating a project: OAuth or usual authentication with a login/password/security token. Does the issue is reproduced if you use another type of authentication?

All this information will help us in our investigation process related to your issue.

                      Thank you,

                      Kate

                        Hi Kate,
It crashed only when I tried to cancel .
So I tried to create project one more time. Just waited for about an hour for IDE to unfreeze and I was able to proceed with project creation.
I used both auth methods. We have a lot of custom objects, reports and other stuff  in our instance.

                        Hope this helps your investigation

                          Hi,

I also waited for IDE to respond back again for almost an hour (choose option 'Wait for program to respond' on windows crash report screen). Finally I was able to see the screen where I can choose metadata.

I will try creating log.txt file as you have mentioned earlier.

                          Thanks,

                              Hi guys,

                              Thank you for your responses.

Shantinath, we have got your letter with the attached log file. Thank you for this.

The IDE freezes after it sent the list of supported metadata on Salesforce and Salesforce returns the list of the existing files for these metadata types to TWS.

I kindly ask you to answer the next questions to help us find the reason for this freeze:
                              • Can you please describe which exactly metadata types are present on your Org? (this is the list of metadata that appears after the TWS freeze during a project creation);
                              • Which metadata files were changed or created on your Org before the issue began to reproduce for you? (of course, if this information is available for you);
                              • Is this issue reproduced for all your Organizations?
                              • Can you add new metadata files to your existing projects?

In addition, I should ask you to reproduce the next case: please create a new project with all the selected metadata files which are available for a TWS project, and then please check if all the metadata types/files are present in your project. This case can show us which metadata files cause the freeze of TWS during the project creation.

We apologize for so many questions. Since this is impossible for us to reproduce the issue you are faced with, we will appreciate any additional information.

                              Thank you,

                              Kate

                                Hi Kate,

I cannot answer first 2 questions, as screen is freezing even before showing list of metadata. Also the org on which I am working is almost 10 years old, so you can expect all sorts of metadata present in system. Following are answers to your rest of the questions -

                                • Is this issue reproduced for all your Organizations? - This issue is present for unlimited edition orgs which have huge metadata, probably exhausted most of the limits(e.g. number of characters in code, number of custom fields). I do not face any issues in developer orgs/partner orgs.
                                • Can you add new metadata files to your existing projects? - I cannot create project, hence I cannot add new metadata.

                                Hope that answers your question.

                                Thanks,
