To open an apex class/trigger file and keep it open, I double-click on it in the solution explorer. When I do this, it does open the file like I wanted but it also expands that tree node so that the xml metadata file is also visible in the solution explorer.

I'm not a fan of that behavior. I can be pretty OCD so I find myself frequently going back and closing these nodes, because I very rarely need to get at the metadata.

It might be nice if those nodes just did not appear in the solution explorer at all - they could be in the Properties window instead. Alternatives would be to maybe have them under their own folder instead of Classes and Triggers or, if possible, to just not expand the tree node in the solution explorer on double-click. If these aren't possible, maybe a Collapse All button in the solution explorer would work.

Minor issue - just a nicety.

      Hi Dave,

Thank you for your sharing your vision with us.

You can hide mapping of the xml metadata files in the Solution Explorer using the following way: please open Main Menu -> Tools -> Options -> Projects -> Presentation, and disable the 'Hide project items metadata' checkbox. You can enable this the same way when you will need these files again.

I kindly ask you to let me know whether this is an option that you are looking for.

      Thank you,

      Kate

Nice, that does indeed work. Thanks!

That helps the OCD but I still think that having active/inactive and api version in the file Properties pop-up would be good.
