We have been using your superb product for the development of a managed package for quite some time.

We now have the need to develop an extension package, and are wondering if you have any advice in how to set it up in Welkin.   Specifically, to make the new package an extension of the existing package we need to create a 'dependency' from the new extension to the existing managed package.    Any thoughts?

      Hi Mark,

      Thank you for your question.

It's an interesting topic for us :)

As I understand you'll deploy your base package to an another development org and you'll create a new package there as an extension. If all sums up right in my memory you're able to reference only "global" apex from your extension package (as well as sObjects, of course).

In this case when you'll create a TWS project for your new dev environment you should see the option to include managed packages to the project (see the Bloom R12 release notes) - select your base project there. Once you've included "referenced packages" to a project you'll see global Apex and all sObjects in the Code Completion as well as you'll see editable items from the package in the Solution Explorer.

I hope this helps and answers. Otherwise please don't hesitate to let me know and I'll get in touch!

      Thank you,

      Vladimir

        One more thing, Mark :)

I'd be very happy to get some feedback from you regarding the managed packages development experience with TWS - maybe you have some concerns, some ideas or annoying things in the IDE for this flow specifically? Please feel free to email me at vladimir.gubanovich@welkinsuite.com if you'd have some free minutes to discuss this :)

        Best Regards,

        Vladimir

          Vladimir,

Thank you for the feedback.   Once the extension project progresses further we would be happy to provide feedback.

Right now while it is true that the Referenced Packages option does appear in the project metadata dialog, it appears that we also needed to perform a specific pull to actually load the baseline application information.   Broadly speaking, in this respect Welkin seems to provide the same level of visibility as Salesforce would provide to a normal package user (e.g. can see the visual force code, but not the apex code)....so good job.

One more thing, so far we have not seen where the auto complete picks up global methods or global classes.   It does pick up table fields.    That is certainly not a real issue since we know both parts of the equation.
