I am looking at moving over to a new IDE.   The other projects that my team look after have the source control in Git so ideally I would like to move our salesforce code into git.   With the force.com ide I would check out the code from svn and then connect the project to a dev environment.   But Welkin Suite and a number of the newer ide's connect and automatically download the metadata from an org.   This means that there might be a disconnect from my source code.

Am I thinking about this the right way?   Because working on our .Net projects I would have a local repo which would be a feature branch for example and I could pull/push etc from here.   But if my local repo comes from the org how do I use git and Welkin Suite in development and what would the process look like.

I am very keen to move away from force.com ide but I don't see that the more modern ide's have really thought about source control integration.

      Hi.

Thank you for your consideration on The Welkin Suite during the looking of a new IDE for your working process.

We support the work a Git repositories directly from TWS. The step-by-step instruction on how to setup Git with the IDE is described here.

Also you can store TWS projects in a Git repository and work with that repository using any suitable Git clients.

However you won't be able to open projects from other IDEs' in The Welkin Suite and vice-versa.

You are right that you should create a project from The Welkin Suite (this will download all selected metadata as well as will create required service files). After that you are free to initialize a Git repository in that folder or move a project to a Git repository.

      Regards,

      Kate

Do you have instructions for connecting SVN to a Welkin Project?

          Hi Josh,

          Thank you for your question.

Currently The Welkin Suite doesn't support integration with SVN.

The Version Control System in the IDE is presented by Git-support. Here you can find the instruction on how to setup Git with TWS.

The support of SVN is already included in the future development of the IDE.

          Regards,

          Kate

              Hi Luke,

              Thank you for your question.

Currently, after our developers have spent a long time in analysis and investigating the SVN support implementation, we understand that this can take a lot of our resources.
Right now, we are focusing on Salesforce-specific functionality and extending possibilities for Salesforce developing in The Welkin Suite which are not available elsewhere with the level of implementation we expect.

The SVN support is present in our future plans, and we will work on this later.

I will let you know when we will include this in the development.

              Regards,

              Kate

It's been another year - are you any closer to getting SVN support incorporated into this product?

                  Hi Randy,

Thank you for your post and for your question.

This another year brought to us really a lot of new requests and ideas, and we started a great part of development for Salesforce admins. Currently, this takes almost all our resources.

We understand that the built-in support of SVN can be one of the based options for some workflows and it will help you to configure your working process with The Welkin Suite IDE easier and more convenient, however, right now, it still requires a lot of resources.

This functionality is present in our backlog to implement, and I will let you know when we will start working on it, however, even now I cannot tell you when exactly we will add this.

If you have any other questions or suggestions - please let us know. We will be happy to answer them and assist.

                  Best Regards,

                  Kate
